Announcement! We’re paying more in 2019!

We’ve got news.

GOOD news.

As many of you know, this year we were lucky enough to receive a grant from the Ontario Arts Council, which will partially fund us for years 2-3.

For those of you outside of Canada, this is a pretty big deal. And it’s letting us do some pretty exciting things.

We’ve had an amazing time in our first year publishing Augur. We’ve been received some incredible stories, and worked with passionate creators whose work we’ve swooned over. We’ve also been thrilled, seeing the reviews, to know that plenty of folks are agreeing with us.

Now…it’s time to make good on the promise we made when we started.

We’re raising rates. Now. As soon as we’re able to.

Because we don’t want to make you read a bunch more before you find out how much…here’s what that looks like.

In 2018, we paid $20 for a poem.

In 2019, we’re paying $40 per poem.

In 2018, we paid $100 for comics 3-5 pages long.

In 2019, we’re paying $50/page, up to $200 for comics.

In 2018, we paid our artists $50 per illustration.

In 2019, we’re paying our artists $100 per illustration.

In 2018, we paid our cover artist $100 per cover.

In 2019, we’re paying our cover artist $200 per cover.

And last but certainly not least…

In 2018, we paid our writers $0.02 per word.

In 2019, we’re more than doubling it. We’re paying $0.05 per word!

We’re pretty excited. But that’s not all.

We’ve set a goal: we want to be a pro-paying market by the end of our third year.

We’re entering year two, so that means that we’re hoping to boost to a pro level by the end of 2020.

So, in this last week of our subscription drive, we’re making a deal with you, readers…

If we get over 75 new subscriptions, we’re boosting fiction even more—to $0.06 per word Canadian.

It won’t be the equivalent of $0.06 per word USD. We’re fairly sure that means we won’t be recognized by the SFWA. But it WILL make us the equivalent pay to Canadian writers.

Incredible writers. Who deserve that money in their pocket for their work.
