Want to join the Augur team?

Augur would be nothing without the help of its more than 50 volunteers. From CEO to First Reader, we all give our time to do more in speculative fiction. As a result, our team is community-first and compassion-minded. There are tasks that need doing, and deadlines that need to be met, but we lead with care and accommodation.

Want to join Augur Magazine? Here's the help we need right now. If you decide to apply, you'll meet with leadership for a primary conversation, and then with members of the broader team so you can get a sense of the organizational culture.

As an organization that features creators across many intersections, we want our team to reflect our mission. We strongly encourage disabled, trans, queer, Black, Indigenous, and/or POC applicants to apply

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

The Augur Literary Society is looking for a Graphic Designer who can help define, organize, and develop the Augur visual identity.

You'll be helping us show up across all of our programs — Augur Magazine, Tales & Feathers, Augur Press, AugurCon, our Workshops, and the Murmurstations podcast — with a consistent visual presence.

Reporting to the Brand Lead and partnering with the Social Media Manager, Chief Programming Officer, and Publisher, the Graphic Designer will:

  • Create visual assets that capture the distinct atmosphere of each of Augur's publications and programs
  • Support the design needs of Augur Magazine, Tales & Feathers, Augur Press, AugurCon, our Workshops, and the Murmurstations podcast
  • Help maintain a consistent, recognizable visual identity across our digital channels and materials
  • Collaborate with the Brand Lead to make sure every program looks and feels like itself

Time commitment? An estimated 2-3 hours per week, flexible to your individual needs.

What You'll Do

  • Design social media graphics — quote cards, event announcements, publication spotlights, and more — across all of our programs
  • Create event and program materials for AugurCon and our workshop series, including promotional banners, schedules, and speaker graphics
  • Design assets for launch moments — new issues, Augur Press titles, and major announcements
  • Design email layouts, banners, and featured images for our newsletter and program communications
  • Conduct administrative tasks within Canva to organize files, update our brand kit, and create working templates

Who You Are

  • You have a great eye — you notice when something looks right, and you know how to get it there
  • You're comfortable in Canva and know all the tricks
  • You can hold multiple visual identities in your head at once and have a loose understanding of brand hierarchy
  • You're a bit of a publishing nerd — you love books and reading and want to be a part of a team who feels the same

Full-time design experience is absolutely welcome here, but it definitely isn't required. What matters most is your eye, your enthusiasm, and your portfolio. Don't self-reject!

If you have any questions, feel free to email our Brand Lead, Suha, at stariq.augurmag@gmail.com.

The deadline is May 15, 2026 and we will be contacting candidates in early June.
