FOUR BEAUTIES

by Anda Zeng

漂亮 (piào liang)  / pretty
(piào) drift / fall through / come to nothing

having husked my limbs light
body floating through an iris
a glimmer only, swimming

silent as jawbone slimmed in acid

         hung on my doorframe

as shiny fish hook in eyelid

         moonlight sliver
         ringing, threaded through stars

as rosebud muscle vivisection
limp and gasping in a teacup

         gutted nine-tailed fox
         suspended in a lucid dream
a white moth sighs out of her chest

as oblivion, a blood-bloom brained

         poppy whisper-sings to herself,

have you seen my mouth?

within, four great beauties

and one rolling head

i feel sick until you speak me
finest sound to my ear
