The Augur Literary Society is excited to announce our brand new monthly book club: “The Augur Bookshelf!” On the fourth Monday of every month, join our team to discuss a featured SFF book. We’ve carefully curated speculative reads across poetry, fiction, graphic fiction and plays!
Here’s what we hope members will experience over the coming months:
- A new community full of all kinds of readers
- Low-stress, low-commitment motivation to read more SFF
- Celebratory, exploratory space to experience new worlds
It can be hard to find the time to read new things without a deadline. Book clubs like ours are meant to help you prioritize your reading and create structure for your goals–whether that’s slamming 100 books this year or getting through one new author.
We’ve focused on manageable books, with many shorter texts that are easy to fit into your daily life–or between longer reads. Members can opt in or out of reading books as they desire, while also creating a community to talk about it with.

How to Get Your Bookshelf Books–at 10% off!
We’ve partnered with Bakka-Phoenix Books to help you quickly source your books.
Bakka will have a select amount of each title available for purchase, and is offering the Augur community 10% off their purchase when using our promo code on these titles (the book club titles will be available on the Bakka website seasonally. Available titles are linked above.). RSVP to the first meeting OR subscribe to our magazine before March 4th to get the code for 10% off.
For folks outside of Canada wanting to participate in the virtual book club, we recommend sourcing the titles from your local bookstores.
Can’t buy the book right now? Try visiting your local library, or accessing it on digital borrowing platforms like Libby.
Agenda
Book club will be a casual, but insightful opportunity for folks to engage with other readers but you can expect meetings to follow this general agenda:
- Land Acknowledgement
- Curated Questions
- The Augur team has carefully curated questions surrounding the text to help generate points of discussion.
- Questions from the Collective
- This an opportunity for you to pose questions you might have for the group at large to discuss!
- What’s Happening Next?
- Want to know what Augur is up to? Augur will take a few minutes at the end of each meeting to let folks know what’s going on!
To confirm your participation in a month’s synchronous discussion, be sure to RSVP to our Eventbrite. Can’t make it but still wanting to read the book with the group, follow-along with our reading progress on Storygraph for easy, asynchronous participation.
Critical Pre-Read: Safety & Code of Conduct Policies
We ask that for the safety of all participants you review our safety and engagement policy before engaging as well as the Augur Code of Conduct.
