For Godzilla

FOR GODZILLA

by Qurat Dar

I covet the rubble beneath her feet. Her palm

shattering stories of corporate soda glass. My

gums ache for her ovation of teeth. I want to

rise from the sea, endless and horrible.

Something to be revered in translation. Oh,

to be a city born in her moult. To eat the top

halves of buildings like a rabbit ruining carrots.

Oh, to sun myself on airport tarmac, swatting

fighter jets like fruit flies. A forked road in my

mouth. Oh, to see the heat leaving God’s body,

taste it in darts.
