RE-WILDING

by Tiffany Morris

You: wake up in the dark,
tattered into       breath.
You:           capture             the tide,
ride              the typhoon,              soak
in        the monsoon rains    of
disaster.

And you:               cast your desperation
into the                mouth
of a volcano
      as it roars               at your feet,
euphoric as you
sing yourself
into death.

You: a wolf snarling in the dark.

And you:            revive
       as [best as] you can;
sprouting wings          +      screaming
 harpy heritage;               blooming feathers
                          on flesh.

You:    a snake, shedding selves,          unravelling
+           swallowing yourself                   whole;
as you:             re-wild                  from storm
into calm          /          into seething
